OUR MISSION

Rutgers Habitat works in conjunction with Habitat affiliates in our area. Our goal is to create affordable housing for low income families.

Habitat For Humanity is about families moving into decent, affordable homes and as expressed by their simple 1970’s aphorism, “One house and one family at a time”, branches of the organization have been put into action to such a degree that it has grown into a very active nonprofit internationally. Our campus chapter is a student-run, student-led organization. As a campus chapter, we have four functions: building, fundraising, advocating and educating. We strive to expand upon each one of these functions with as dedicated and thoughtful involvement as possible to further us towards reaching our mission’s goals.

We offer help to our partner affiliates throughout New Jersey — that means we work alongside families, various volunteers, and subsequently spend hundreds of hours building their homes. And we help in order to contribute to the effort of giving families an opportunity to own a decent, affordable home of their own. Each family is expected to ultimately pay for and maintain their new home with no monetary interest charged or profit gained on the builder’s-side. Mortgage payments are placed in a fund used to finance future housing projects.
